Statement on the FY27 Uniform Per Student Funding Formula
The DC Students Succeed Coalition released the following statement on today’s announcement by Mayor Muriel Bowser of the proposed Uniform Per Student Funding Formula level for Fiscal Year 2027:
Funding fairness across public school sectors is the bedrock of DC’s status as the fastest-improving urban school system in the country. Sustained, student-centered investments have helped drive real academic recovery and positioned D.C. as a national leader in academic progress.
Today, Mayor Bowser reaffirmed her long-standing commitment to public education by announcing a 2.55% increase to the Uniform Per Student Funding Formula. Amidst significant fiscal headwinds and difficult budget tradeoffs across government, the Mayor continues to rightly prioritize students.
At the same time, as more details of the Fiscal Year 2027 budget become available, it will be critical to ensure that funding across public school sectors is truly aligned with the principle that every student deserves fair and sufficient support. Funding gaps risk slowing the momentum our schools have worked so hard to build.
We look forward to working closely with both the Council and the Executive to close remaining funding gaps and ensure all public school students have the resources they need to sustain and accelerate their progress.
