DC families enjoy access to a rich fabric of traditional public and public charter schools and can select the educational option that best meets their learner’s needs under our strong system of choice. From storied neighborhood schools to bilingual programs and centers for our earliest learners to STEM-focused academies for high schoolers, students of all ages have robust options in the District. Preserving and nourishing this rich system requires:
Equitable funding for all public school students and the schools they attend. This means ensuring that all funding flows through the UPSFF regardless of sector. Our schools are strongest and best poised to meet student need with high-quality curricular materials, teacher training, and resources for students with disabilities and who are experiencing homelessness when they have the financial means to do so; and
An increase to the facilities allotment to ensure that public charter schools have reliable and sufficient funding to construct, maintain, and modernize the buildings serving nearly fifty percent of students.
